Indian Dinner: Bayleaf!

Details

There is one thing about which there is no doubt: The St Louis area has a wealth of great Indian restaurants! Some of you might remember a really good one called Desi Vibes; we had a dinner there about four years ago. Unfortunately, it went out of business. But last year, a new Indian restaurant, Bayleaf, opened in its place! Notwithstanding the location, this is an entirely new restaurant. Naturally, I had to check it out and was not surprised that the food was excellent! Which meant, of course, it would be a perfect spot to have a dinner for this group!

Cuisine - While Desi Vibes had a somewhat small but unique menu, Bayleaf has a much larger menu - and has many more of the more traditional favorites - so you can stick with the tried and true, or try something new and different! You can't go wrong with the Butter Chicken, or the Chicken Tikka Masala, for example, or perhaps the Lamb Vindaloo if you like it spicy! If you want to try something different, the Gongura roast chicken with south Indian spices and red sorrel is worth a try, or for a different take on fish, consider the Achari Fish (pan-seared grouper with pickling spices, coriander pesto, and a bed of lemon couscous), or maybe the Malabar seabass (pan seared with green coriander curry, coconut, pepper masala, cherry tomatoes, curry leaves, and lemon rice)! Their scallops with Hyderabad style peanut and sesame salan sauce looks pretty interesting, too! It goes without saying there is a huge variety of vegetarian dishes as well. Bottom line, here we have a really large and varied menu, and you're guaranteed to find plenty of awesome choices. And, of course, the fact that it's all delicious helps!

Price - Here is another area where Bayleaf stands out. While many of the appetizers are a bit pricy, being in the mid teens, the rest of the menu is actually surprisingly reasonable - also all in the mid teens with only a few items cracking the $20 mark! For my money, and given the prices of most restaurants these days, this is a great deal!

Other Info - Bayleaf is located in the small L-shaped strip center on the south side of Olive Blvd, just to the right of the Bowlero bowling center, and a short distance west of Woodsmill Rd. There is plenty of parking right in front of the restaurant!

I'll be looking forward to seeing plenty of my west county foodies on Thursday, April 17th, for some excellent Indian food!
