Developing for Virtual Reality Besides Games: Discussion in the Pub

Details

Virtual Reality has finally reached a point where we can immerse ourselves in photo realistic worlds, and not merely a sea of blatantly polyogonic floating shapes. And, so far, most of what has been developed for it are games.

In this, more conceptual, edition of Dinner with Developers, we can use our imagination to come up with OTHER, perhaps more practical applications for VR, that are NOT games.

We usually talk about coding at this gathering, and we STILL can of course. But, I figured I would initiate the evening with a topic that was fun and trendy to wrap our minds around, first.

I will bring my Samsung Gear VR (with the new version of its remote) and a Google Cardboard with me, for people to sample, while we are there. (I cannot bring my HTC Vive, because it's not exactly portable.)

I would like to thank Google Earth VR for inspiring this topic. It is not, technically, a game. Though, it has become something like a recent "gaming addiction", anyway.

Dewey's Pub recently hosted the official social gathering events of NECSS (The Northeast Conference of Science and Skepticism) rather successfully. We attendees and staffers liked it so much, I HAD to bring Dinner with Developers there, as well!Although most of the place can be very loud most of the time, the manager assured me we can have a quieter atmosphere arranged for ourselves, possibly sitting outside if the weather is nice enough.
