DIR/Floortime based Autism Social Group Meetup

This will be a getting to know one another, an open, free and gentle discussion regarding any challenges and concerns with respect to maintaining reciprocal engagement and communication with your toddler or older child. There is no set agenda. All questions and concerns are welcomed!

Some topics of discussion might include, for example: What are some of the many challenges involved in maintaining a continuous back and forth reciprocal engagement with gestures and verbalization? How do we begin to get away from the simplistic or false notion that behaviors are either, "Appropriate vs. Inappropriate?" How do we begin to understand that all "behaviors" are in fact the external manifestation of what is occurring beneath the surface (i.e., Does your child internally feel that the world is safe or is s/he in a constant state of mobilization of fight/flight or shut down/withdrawal responses)? How do we begin to get away from the misguided idea that your child needs to be adult- directed in order to perform a set of behaviors and tasks? How do we begin to slow down and attribute purpose and meaning to your child's actions? How do we begin to deepen emotional-reciprocal attachment and attunement around your child's natural intent or emotional around your child's natural intent or emotional interests? What are some of your child's sensory processing challenges?
