DIR/Floortime one- on-one based discussion/consultation

Details

In addition to our general discussion group, we will have from time to time a one on one (no-charge) 30-40 minute consultation for family members with respect to services that we do provide. Discussion can be with any present issue of concern with respect to challenges that may include but not limited to your child's capacity to maintain simple to complex back and forth gestural and verbal reciprocal communication/engagement with you and others.

.Receptive language skills with respect to your child's capacity to register, process and assess moment-to-moment nuanced emotional-facial and gestural cues.

.Expressive language skills with respect to simple word to complex phrase usage to communicate. For example, your child's ability to label, comment, query and elaborate (i.e. wants, needs, curiosity and desires) and challenges in emerging and sustained full social-pragmatic communication/language skills.

.Symbolic/Pretend Play: Simple to complex use and exchange of back and forth ideas in symbolic/pretend play with you and others (i.e., naming and elaboration between characters. Who are they? Where are they are going? Are they Happy? Mad? Sad?)

Also, central to the above, which impacts on All executive functioning, behavior and emergent communication/language skills are your child's sensory processing challenges (i.e., over-responsivity or under-responsivity with respect to visual-facial, auditory-prosodic and tactile-gestural communication).

What is most significantly overlooked from a biopsychosocial perspective (e.g., Polyvagal Theory) is how your child's physiological state regulation or autonomic nervous system is core in all Functional-Emotional Developmental milestones.

.How do we cultivate in day to day interactions with our child the underlying foundations of felt-safety? This involves the following:

.How all externalizing behaviors (and sensory processing challenges) are adaptive and emergent properties that are exacerbated by your child's interoceptive (internal) sense of safety with others and the environment.

For example, Does your child feel internally safe and calm to engage with others and the environment? Or is your child's sympathetic-adrenal nervous system defensively mobilized for fight/flight responses? Or if his/her adaptive fight/flight responses are not available are there adaptive parasympathetic withdrawal and/or shutdown behaviors. How can we cultivate an underlying sense of safety for your child to be able to engage?

For children who have mastered the earlier functional-emotional developmental milestones, higher thinking skills (e.g., critical reflective thinking; grey area thinking, thinking from a emerging strong sense-of self-and valuation of different reflected upon and voiced ideas/opinions) will be discussed.

Discussions/consultations will be held vis a vis zoom. 30-40 minutes per family.
