Spectacular procession dating back 500 years: Cart Marking

Details
In this fun event, we're going to witness a weird and wonderful procession full of spectacle and charm. The tradition of 'Cart Marking' dates back 500 years and is carried out by The Worshipful Company of Carmen. There is simply no other event like it anywhere in the world.
You will have the chance to see a fine collection of vehicles from ancient to modern, handcarts, horses and carts, steam-driven vehicles to electric, solar-powered and hydrogen vehicles along with robes, hats and other regalia.
What is cart marking? A 'cart', in today's terms, is a vehicle used to transport freight or passengers, for 'hire or reward'. Marking is done by branding (or burning) a number, letter or symbol on to a wooden surface which is attached to the 'cart'. This was the earliest form of vehicle licensing.
We'll also talk about the history of the Livery Companies and look at the Hall of the top rated guild. How are they rated? Who was the mysterious maiden? How did the saying 'at sixes and sevens' originate? All will be revealed.
Afterwards we'll head over to the sixth floor viewing gallery overlooking St Paul's where we can get a cheeky drink from the roof top bar or sit and have a sandwich in the public space. A beautiful way to end the event with stunning views of the City and some lovely artwork.
So please join me for a great morning in the City with this friendly group.
