Fun event: London Sheep Drive and Livery Fair

Details

Please join me for this fun event with history snippets. We will have the chance to marvel the spectacle of sheep being driven across London Bridge. A long-established charity event, celebrating a Freeman’s ancient “right” to bring sheep to market over the Thames, toll free.

The Sheep Drive is hosted by The Worshipful Company of Woolmen, one special day - two unique events: The Sheep Drive and the Livery Fair. There's something for everyone to enjoy along with the atmosphere and spirit of this wonderful occasion.

The magnificent Livery Fair offers visitors the opportunity to learn all about the Sheep Drive and the wonderful causes it supports. Other fun activities will include expert blade shearing displays and some wonderful rare breed sheep!

We will start with some useful information about the history of the wool industry: why does the Lord Chancellor sit on a woolsack? Where in the City was wool weighed in the 15th century? Why did Queen Elizabeth I make everyone wear a wool cap on Sundays? All will be revealed.

We will continue the animal theme as we make our way to Leadenhall Market, a former livestock market. We'll be talking about a famous goose, a tiny mice sculpture and finish with a drink in the Lamb Tavern.

The nearest tube at the end is Monument. If this is your first walk, you will be made very welcome in this friendly group.
