Crime and Punishment: 16th to 19th Century

Details

We will be exploring the City of London to discover the fascinating and gruesome world of crime and punishment throughout the past centuries. We'll visit the sites where public executions and corporal punishments once took place along with former prisons.

We'll be discovering: what life was like in debtors prisons and why so many never left; the bounty hunter who became the hunted; an 18th century prisoner who escaped for the last time; the famous author who faced the mob; the Queen who feasted as her opponents burned; all this and much more!

We will finish near Bank tube. There's a pub visit at the end of the tour for those who wish to go.

If this is your first time on Meetup or with this group, you will be made very welcome! So please join me for this guided walk in a friendly group.
