Kensington Mansions and Mews: grand houses and servant streets

Please join me on this fascinating history tour.

Kensington's streets were largely laid out in the mid to late 19th century. They featured mews streets to house the coachmen and horses that served the wealthy Victorians of nearby grand houses.

We will be exploring these fascinating streets and discovering the stories behind some amazing and unique homes. The once lowly mews houses are now highly sought after by the rich and famous.

During the afternoon, we will discover: the Earl with an eye for fashion; Italianate mansions verging on the palatial; the house of the seven gables; the search for an absent writer; a famous painter's studio and
all this and much more.

We will finish near Gloucester Road tube with a pub visit for those who wish to go.

Meet outside South Kensington tube station. Old Brompton Road exit opposite Pret and Starbucks.

2.30pm – Start walk (approx 90 minutes)
