Deep under London's busy streets lies a fascinating and filthy tale of disease and poverty , Victorian engineering and how one man saved London from The Great Stink .

Join me for a virtual trawl through the history of the vast sewer systems beneath the city . Using pictures , video footage and eye witness accounts , we will follow the story of London's waste , from the early days of the " night soil" collectors, to the stinking River Fleet where Londoners disposed of everything from dead cows to human corpses, to Joseph Bazalgette , the engineer who designed 450 miles of tunnels under London ( and the Embankment ) to clean up the city .
