Last minute update: For this event I've decided to waive the meetup contribution I normally charge. It is because I want people from the "Czech meetup" alias www.spolecneaktivity.cz to join us and they don't want to contribute towards Discovering Prague or Meetup. And it would be unfair to charge more from you than from them. Therefore, the amount we'll collect from you today will be 150 CZK.
However, if you do want to contribute towards future events of "Discovering Prague", feel free to do so. Everyone who decides to pay 200 CZK will get a raffle (tombola) ticket which will be drawn after the excursion. The prices are a gift voucher worth 300 CZK and a piece of calcit from the mines with a postcard issued by Hagen-Morina Society :-)

Fellow Discoverers!

I'd like to invite you to an excursion to the underground caves and tunnels connecting 'Amerika' quarries. Our guide will be a member of Hagen-Morina Society (http://www.hagen-morina.cz/) which looks after this unique place.

Itinerary:

  1. We will meet on Saturday 13th of August at 9:00 am at Smichovske nadrazi in the ticket hall. The same place as for the two previous hikes. Photo is here (https://www.meetup.com/discoveringprague/events/232722471/).

  2. We will get off the train in Karlstejn and from here we'll hike about 5 km (https://mapy.cz/s/VuS3) (mainly uphill) to the entrance to the quarry plant where we will meet with our guide(s).

  3. The Excursion starts at 12:00 pm. We will walk via "Mala Amerika" Quarry to the "Hagenova stola (https://www.google.cz/search?q=hagenova+%C5%A1tola&rlz=1C1EJFA_enCZ666CZ666&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=643&site=webhp&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjCuq2qo57OAhVEthQKHaIgBcQQ_AUIBigB)" and back, cca 2x1,2 km. The tour takes about 90 minutes.

  4. After the excursion:

A. If the weather is good, we will have a picnic lunch by "Mala Amerika" (at the same spot like on 30.7.). If you want to swim in the quarry please beware that entering the quarry is officially prohibited under a fine up to 15 000 CZK and if you do so, it is entirely at your own risk!

The downhill walk back to the Karlstejn train station takes about an hour and we'll aim to catch the train at 5:19 pm to be back in Prague at 6 pm.

Optional after-hike socializing: I booked restaurant "U Peronu" (https://www.zomato.com/praha/restaurant-u-peronu-sm%C3%ADchov-praha-5) from 6 pm.

B. If the weather is bad, we will head back to Karlstejn and take the first available train back to Prague.

What to take with you: Flashlight - it can be a mobile phone as long as its battery is able to last for the whole tour; Firm, non-slippery shoes; Warm sweater or overcoat - it is about 9°C in the underground all year round! Swimwear (if you want to have a swim in 'Mala Amerika' after the excursion)

Helmets for everyone will be provided.

The cost of the trip:

200 CZK which includes the admission fee (goes to the upkeep of the underground), round-trip train fare and the meetup contribution.

Disclaimer:

This event is not suitable for people suffering anxiety in enclosed underground spaces (claustrophobia). Please read the full DP's disclaimer (https://www.meetup.com/discoveringprague/pages/20807828/DISCOVERING_PRAGUE_DISCLAIMER/) before signing-up.

I look forward to exploring the caves with you!

Cheers,

Filip

PLEASE NOTE!
We were asked to provide the number of the excursion's participants by this Wednesday 10.8. Therefore, on Wednesday 8 pm, I'll close the RSVPs for this event and you'll only be able to join if somebody else cancels. Thank you for your cooperation!
