Winter Crossing of the Bohemian Paradise

Hello Discoverers!

Have you been to Cesky raj (Bohemian Paradise) in winter? I haven't and that's why I've planned this trip for Saturday 4th of February 2017.

Cesky raj, despite of being a very popular destination, is not served by public transport very well, and the journey time from Prague to most places in it is at least two hours with one or more changes.

However, we will have our own bus to take us straight to the trail head. The meeting time is at 7:30 am at Cerny most, metro B terminal station. The bus will pick us up directly from the side of the Chlumecka road (the main road parallel to the metro line). The exact meeting/bus pick-up point is indicated by the red pin on the google map above the description.

Plan your journey to the meeting point ahead of the time, if you go by Prague public transport use the journey planner (http://spojeni.dpp.cz/ConnForm.aspx?cl=E5).

Please be punctual, we'll be leaving at 7:45 am sharp, to make the most of the day!

We should hit the trail around 9:00 to enjoy the tranquility of winter morning in this beautiful part of the country. We will first visit the Prachovske skaly (Prachovske Rocks). This monumental sandstone "rock town" is open free of charge during the winter season! We'll spend the morning hopping up and down to its various scenic viewing points. Beware that there will be many slippery stairs to climb and the passages through the rocks will be frozen.

Lunch: Bring packed lunch with you and a thermos with something hot! We'll eat alfresco.

After the lunch, we will hit the trail in the direction of Podtrosecka valleys. We will pass a lovely viewing point overlooking the symbol of Bohemian Paradise, castle Trosky and many many more sandstone formations. Imagine all those rocks, picturesque old cottages and forest (hopefully) covered with snow!

The whole route is 15,5 km which seems quite short. But believe me, all the rocks hopping and stairs climbing will make it feel a lot longer!

We will be aiming for finishing it by 4:00 pm.

What to take with you: Lunch, snacks, drink, warm and sturdy shoes with good tread, gloves (!), caution and common sense ;-)

The current weather forecast promises temperatures below zero. The paths will be covered with snow and ice and the railings at the viewing points and stairs will be ice-cold. Bring gloves!

We will be back at Cerny most around 5:15 pm.

As usual, after the event, there will be an optional early dinner and/or drink together. I have booked Pizza Coloseum near metro B Vysocanska (http://www.pizzacoloseum.cz/vysocany). Hope you join!

The cost: 390 CZK This includes comfortable transport by bus chartered for our group and myself as your guide. The maximum size of the group is 36 people + myself as that's the number of seats in the bus.You'll pay in cash on the day. The seats will be allocated in order of your arrival. Don't be late!

If you want to be 100% sure that there is a seat for you, you can send a deposit of 200 CZK in advance by paypal or bank transfer. Your seat is only guaranteed if I receive the deposit by Thursday 2.2. though (!) I'll return it in full if you cancel your attendance at least 24 hours before the event.
