Step into the peaceful town of Katsura, Kyoto — once a thriving center for natural dyeing, thanks to its pristine underground spring water and lush natural surroundings.In this special hands-on experience, you’ll learn the art of Hon-Ai (fermented natural indigo dyeing), a traditional method passed down since the Edo period. No chemical dyes — only the deep aroma of fermentation, the artisan’s touch, and the mesmerizing transformation of fabric into rich shades of blue.
Beginners are warmly welcome. With gentle guidance from the indigo masters, you’ll experience the process with all five senses and dye your own unique piece.Date: Tuesday, July 23, 2024
