Walk North Lido Beach

Details
If you haven't been to North Lido in a few months, you'll be shocked at the changes brought about by Debbie, Helene and Milton. As sad as it is, it's worth the walk to observe the power of Nature and realize it could have been much worse. It's finally starting to grow back.
This walk is about 2 miles from the parking lot (see photo above) to the wall and back. I'll be discussing early history of St. Armands/Lido Key and also some beach science so there will be frequent stops for short talks.
Some of the beach science will include tides, beach re-nourishment, shells, seaweed, sea grass, rack lines, animals, etc.
Meet at the wooden deck near the showers. From there, we'll walk down to the wall and then head into the woods to observe the restoration area and talk about that. There's an eagle's nest in the area so we definitely want to stop for that. There are lots of fallen trees in the restoration area, so expect that you'll have to walk over some of the branches that are in the path.
Shortly after the eagle's nest, we'll return to the beach and complete our walk back to the parking lot.
BRING: Comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting wet, water, sunscreen, bugspray, binoculars, etc.
DIRECTIONS: There isn't much of an address for North Lido beach. It's the first beach you come to on Ben Franklin Dr. once you leave St. Armand's Circle. Look for the diagonal parking (see photo above). The one that's given will get you in the area . If you're not familiar with the area, I'd suggest you do a drive by before the event so you don't get lost. Don't go to the main beach with the pavilion and the large paved parking lot. North Lido is a small angled parking lot. See the photo above.
The City of Sarasota is starting to charge for street parking so check where you park. It's free parking until 10 am. We should be done before that.
