Nature Walk at Old Miakka Preserve
Details
Join me and Sarasota County Environmental Manager, Liz Gandy, for a walk through Old Miakka Preserve at the end of Fruitville Road as we explore two separate eco-habitats of pines vs oaks plus examples of rare Florida oak scrub. Participants will see Spring flowers in bloom plus interesting birds and possibly other wildlife!
The paths are wide, built on sand, but it is still advisable to wear comfortable SPF clothing and close-toed, preferably old, shoes appropriate for walking in the woods. Bring water, insect repellent, shades/sunscreen, cameras and binoculars.
Please wear your DGS badge and arrive early to check in with me.
Please note: This is a guided tour and while we plan to walk 1-2 miles, we will be stopping to look at different plants and wildlife along the way.
If you need a badge, please text me and I will try to bring one for you. A $5 donation for the badge is appreciated.
Please note there are NO rest rooms at this preserve.
Directions: Parking is limited! If possible consider carpooling.
Drive out Fruitville Road heading east from I-75 for 11 miles. Cross over Verna Road and continue on the gravel/dirt road for another 0.4 mile to metal railing on the right where a small parking area can be accessed. Please park facing in so that the most vehicles can get a space. Thank you!
