Paddle Phillippi Creek to Siesta Key
Details
Launching from the kayak ramp at 8:30 am sharp (plan to arrive 30 minutes before start time), we paddle up the creek to Roberts Bay then head north towards 3 spoil islands that you might have noticed driving to Siesta Key from the Siesta Dr. bridge. They were created when the ICW was dredged in the 1960s.
Crossing between two of the islands, we then paddle into a canal which will take us into the bay near Siesta. Next we enter Bayou Louise through another canal and there we'll stop to view 4 significant Sarasota school of architecture buildings (architecturesarasota.org).
On the return, we'll stop at a beach at Big Edwards Island, one of the dredged islands from the 60s, for a break before returning to our starting point.
This paddle is open water and is suitable for anyone with at least 3 months paddling experience and their own boat. There are no rentals available for this outing.
BRING: Your kayak or SUP, PFD and whistle (required by law), kayak cart, water, snack, sunscreen, bug repellent, etc.
