Private Tour - Mote AquaCulture Research Park (MAP)

This one-ok-a-kind special tour of MAP, which is not open to the public, is back again this year solely for 20 of our DGS members. The $20 fee goes to MOTE in furtherance of their research to develop sustainable aquaculture technology to feed the world and restock depleted species of fresh and saltwater fish.

Mote's fish farming research facility, located east of I-75 off Fruitville Road, is where marine scientists grow high quality eggs, larvae and juvenile snook to return to wild populations, to pioneer a prototype marine aquaponics system to farm edible marine plants and red drum fish together, and to study fish to understand impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. This research is critical to address new ways to clean and re-use both fresh and salt water in closed-loop for circulating systems, to grow fish and plants for wetlands restoration in ways that will sustain our natural resources.... in particular water.

The tour will begin at their administrative office building, then a walk around the campus property where specific research projects are underway, including facilities where raising sustainable fish, hydroponic plants, and coral reefs and the study of Red Tide, are underway.

Please arrive 15 minutes BEFORE 9AM to park your car and meet at the admin building. You must wear closed-toed shoes and your DGS badge. Please also wear clothing appropriate for outdoors (including sunscreen and eye shades) and bring water and cameras. There are restroom facilities in the office building, available at the start of our tour

Sign up here to be WAITLISTED. The private tour will cost $20 per person. Each member will need to pre-register using their link and PREPAY the fee directly to MOTE. There are no refunds for this event. Once you register here, I will send you the link to pre-register with MOTE.

Only by pre-registering with MOTE using their link guarantees your spot on the tour. Each registrant will receive a confirmation email from MOTE once they complete the registration.
