The Fantastical World of Tech Accessibility Robots

Details

Join Disruptive Technologists for an engaging evening of transformation with our free panel discussion on how robotics is revolutionizing accessibility, making daily life more navigable and enjoyable for individuals with diverse abilities.

WHEN AND WHERE
May 9, 2024
6:00 PM to 7:30 PM ET

Makerspace
6 MetroTech Center, 1st. floor, Brooklyn, NY
(Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue)

Meet leading innovators in the field of assistive technology who are blending human-centric design with advanced robotics. They'll share insights into their groundbreaking work—from robotic guide dogs to smart wearable biotrackers—and discuss how these technologies are crafting a more inclusive world.

Accessibility Tech is any device, software or equipment that is used to increase, maintain, and improve the functional capabilities of people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. It incorporates the principles of universal design. There are now collaborative robots similar to a human arm, robotic guide dogs, autonomous navigation without human intervention, smart toilets, exoskeletons and so much more.

MEET THE PANELISTS

  • Steven Galeazzi, President and CEO of the American Bionics Project. Steven’s groundbreaking work focuses on accelerating a new era of mobility tech that will change lives forever.
  • Dr. Farrukh Zia, Professor at CUNY and NYC Chapter Leader at Makers Making Changes. His work in open-source assistive devices have paved the way for practical solutions for individuals with disabilities.
  • Sage Cronen-Townsend, NYU student and Captain for the 2024 NYU RoboMaster team. Passionate about the development of robotics, Sage aims to make independence a reachable goal for everyone, regardless of their physical capabilities.
  • Angelo Catalano, a master student from the NYU Dynamic System Lab, is studying Mechatronic and Robotics Engineering and is interested in animal and human behavior and robotics research.
  • McKenna Yoshinobu, NYU student and 3D biomedical device project member working on an advanced back brace for kyphosis for those with spinal conditions.
  • Tate and Jonathan, NYU Robot Design Team members currently helping design and build an extraterrestrial mining robot for NASA’s annual Lunabotics Competition.
  • Josephine Li, a NYU student looking for new innovations to monitor health and adapt through smart, responsive technology with smart wearable biotrackers.
