The U.S. celebrates Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May, May 11 in 2025. Otherwise, every day is mother's day just as a mother is a working mother. In 1912, Mother's Day founder Anna Jarvis trademarked “Mother's Day” and “Second Sunday in May”, but nowadays we can safely give or create a card without the trademark symbol.

By 1921 Anna Jarvis was complaining about how Mother's Day had become too commercialized, and in 1948 she was arrested for disturbing the peace while protesting the overcommercialization.

In these days of righteous protests you could tell your mother, “I agree with Anna Jarvis, and here's my hearty handclasp, mom!” Otherwise you may have more success with a carnation, card, and family dinner in addition to gifts.

Our May 14 meeting's theme of “Mother's Day” gives us all an opportunity to share our experiences in prepared speeches, Table Topics®, and evaluations. You are welcome to celebrate with us.
