National 311 Day is the theme and topic for our Wednesday, March 11th, meeting. Asian Express Toastmasters invites you to join us to help raise awareness about the 311 system. People can be amazed at all the problems that 311 solves involving average citizens.

311 is for non-emergency services, a resource for community connection of cities so that people can call to report problems, learn about city services, and ask questions.

Since the introduction of the 911 emergency system (a gradual rollout in the US starting in 1968), non-emergency calls have slowed down operators' response times to real emergencies.

The 311 system (starting in Baltimore in 1996) is a way to relieve pressure on the overloaded 911 system. 311 frees up emergency phone lines and shortens wait times for emergency calls, saving lives by helping 911 dispatchers to quickly get emergency services to those who need them. We welcome you sharing your experiences with 311.
