Doing data work with an impact: Discover the many ways data science works for the public sector in King County, WA

Join us for a discussion of how data science is shaping public policy and improving lives in our community. Learn from three experts as they share their experiences and insights on:

  • Using data to track changing health, economic and demographic conditions in King county.
  • How data scientists help shape planning, implementation, and evaluation of critical social service innovations like our regional crisis care centers.
  • Innovative strategies to support collaboration and cross-sector work while stewarding sensitive data about people in our communities.

This event is perfect for:

  • Data analysts, scientists, and students curious about career opportunities in the public sector
  • Public policy enthusiasts interested in the role of data in government
  • Anyone passionate about using technology for social good

The event will consist of three short talks, followed by a Q & A. Light refreshments will be provided.

  • Carolina Johnson, Senior Data Scientist in King County Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS)
  • Minh Phan, Data & Evaluation Manager in King County DCHS

Parking:
Public parking is available in nearby Amazon building garages (closest one is on Thomas St between Terry Ave N and Boren Ave N) and is free after 4pm. When possible, we encourage guests to use ride-share apps to navigate the city.

Public Transit:
The South Lake Union neighborhood is serviced by multiple bus routes as well as the South Lake Union Streetcar. We recommend use of the King Country Metro Trip Planner or Google Maps to determine your ideal route. Fares may be paid in cash, by using your ORCA Card (available to order online or at a variety of grocery and other locations throughout the region), or via the Transit Go app.

The Seattle Campus Security Team provides escorted walks within a small radius of campus. These are open to all community members upon request at either of our front desks.
