October meeting: The Coming Wave

Hi all –After reading the first couple of chapters of this month’s book Determined, I think the topic (whether or not we have free will) may be a little too abstract for our group. I never do this, but since we still have a few weeks before the meeting and only a handful of people have signed up so far, I’m going to switch to another book that I’ve had on my list – The Coming Wave by DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman. AI is a topic that is touching all of our lives – or soon will – and this book has been well-reviewed as one that authoritatively explores the technology's societial and public policy implications. For those of who you have started Determined, we can spend a little time on its main points, before starting our discussion of The Alignment Problem. Thanks and happy reading! - Steve
