February meeting: Everyone Who Is Gone Is Here
Details
Hi everyone -- Hope your 2026 is off to a good start! I enjoyed our discussion of Nations Apart last week -- thanks to those who joined to talk about how the various migratory patterns of early settlers helped establish conflicting regional cultures in the U.S. For next month's book I'd like to focus on immigration from Latin America, one of the most divisive issues we've faced in recent years. The book will be Everyone Who Is Gone Is Here by journalist Jonathan Blitzer. It won a bunch of awards in 2024 and looks to be a well-researched account of migration from the Northern Triangle in Central America, and how it has co-evolved with U.S. immigration policy.
I'm going to schedule this one for a weekday evening (first time since the group was started in 2018!) because someone at the last meeting said it was hard for her to make it on Saturdays, and I thought that might be true of others as well. So, let's do it on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 pm EST. Please RSVP if you plan to attend so you get the Zoom link. Thanks and have a good week!
Steve
