Details

DIYBIO.TO welcomes you to our Intro to R Meetup at the Hacklab.to!

Join Us in our Next Meetup: Intro to R!
As part of our intro to bioinformatics, we are first delving into the worl od R - what it is and how to use it for data management and analysis. We will in the limited time, cover a range of tools, methodologies, and real-world examples contributed by our members.

Agenda:

  • Introduction to R: what is it and what are its uses?
  • Concepts: We'll provide an overview of common data types, application packages, and methods
  • Practical exercises: use R for basic math, booleans, dataframe analysis, and important everyday functions.

BEFORE THE CLASS (important or the class will run overtime):

1. Install R (the language)
The latest version of R as of February 2025 is version 4.4.2 Pile of Leaves which is what we'll be using. Go to https://cran.rstudio.com/ then click "Download R for Windows" or macOS whichever is applicable. Then "install R for the first time". Then "Download R-4.4.2 for Windows" or macOS

2. Install RStudio (the application we'll write R with)
The latest version of RStudio is 2024.12.1+563 | Released: 2025-02-13. If you're on windows then you can click the "Download Rstudio desktop for windows". Otherwise scroll down and you'll see a list of links to install RStudio in a range of operating systems, including macOS
