Intro to R! IN PERSON - Sunday Meetup!
Details
DIYBIO.TO welcomes you to our Intro to R Meetup at the Hacklab.to!
Join Us in our Next Meetup: Intro to R!
As part of our intro to bioinformatics, we are first delving into the world of R - what it is and how to use it for data management and analysis. We will in the limited time, cover a range of tools, methodologies, and real-world examples contributed by our members. This is part of a series of R programming workshops that we plan to host.
Agenda:
- Introduction to R: what is it and what are its uses?
- Concepts: We'll provide an overview of common data types, application packages, and methods
- Practical exercises: use R for basic math, booleans, dataframe analysis, and important everyday functions.
BEFORE THE CLASS (important or the class will run overtime):
1. Install R (the language)
The Great Square Cube version of R is what we will use, but other recent versions will work. Go to https://cran.rstudio.com/ then click "Download R for Windows" or macOS or Linux flavours, whichever is applicable. Then "install R for the first time". Then "Download R-4.x.x" for your OS.
2. Install RStudio (the application we'll write R with)
On https://posit.co/downloads/ click the "Download Rstudio" and scroll down for the range of operating systems, including macOS, Linux and Windows.
At DIYBio.to, our mission is to bridge the gap between biology and the community, fostering a reciprocal relationship where people can reconnect with the wonders of biology. Operating in a neutral, open, and not-for-profit environment, we are dedicated to making biology accessible.
If you do not have a laptop, please let us know. Hacklab has a limited number of laptops that we can load with R and RStudio, but we need to know ahead of time.
Who we are: Our community comprises biologists and enthusiasts, ranging from individuals with a keen interest to PhD-level scientists.
Code of Ethics: We adhere to the DIYBio code of ethics, as outlined on diybio.org.
Membership: If you share our passion and vision, we invite you to become a member. Come visit us, and let's engage in a conversation about DIYBIO.TO. Your journey into the world of DIY biology awaits!
And don't forget, on Tuesdays, DIYBio.to is also part of the Hacklab.to open house starting at 6 pm until late, complete with a PWYC dinner. Check out the details at: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/hacklab-open-house-tickets-466821263967
