Study Group: Cartoon Guide to Genetics

Don’t remember much from high school biology? What you do remember seems light-years behind where biology is today?

Normally we go through Albert’s Molecular Biology of the Cell (http://www.amazon.ca/Molecular-Biology-Cell-5th-HARDCOVER/dp/0815341059/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412630582&sr=8-1&keywords=molecular+biology+of+the+cell) textbook, but we're taking a hiatius for a few months and reading popular science books about biology. This month we've chosen The Cartoon Guide to Genetics (http://www.amazon.com/Cartoon-Guide-Genetics-Updated-Edition/dp/0062730991) by Larry Gonick and Mark Wheels!

The Toronto Public Library actually doesn't have any copies of this book, but hacklab has one, and it's a quick read (about 2 hours). There is an open house every Tuesday evening 6-11pm so you could come and read it during that if you don't want to buy a copy.

We'll discuss the book plus have our usual wide-ranging discussion of molecular biology and synthetic biology in the news.
