We're super delighted to welcome Benedikt Bauer, who'll be presenting "From Pony to Herd: Microservices with Django"!
Microservices sound great on paper: everything independent, everything scalable, every team doing its own thing. Then reality hits, and you're staring at 40 services, a message bus, and a message that vanished somewhere between three consumers. Benedikt takes us inside the architecture of a real IoT platform and asks why it needs so many services, and whether it really needs all of them. With a working demo app, he'll show what event-driven microservices can look like in Django, where Django happily plays along, and where it raises an eyebrow. We'll also get the dark side: debugging across service boundaries, eventual consistency, and the joy of touching five repos to add a single field. You'll leave with an honest answer to when microservices are worth it and when the good old monolith wins. Spoiler: more often than you'd think.
