Step into the great wild backyard of Washington D.C. on the Western Ridge and Valley Trail Loop! This trail offers a wonderful escape from the city streets. You will wander through a thick forest of American beech, tulip poplars, and white oaks. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for white-tailed deer or the bright flash of a Northern Cardinal. The trail is well-marked, though it can get quite muddy after a good rain. Because of the rolling hills and natural dirt paths, wearing sturdy sneakers or hiking boots is a great idea to keep you steady.
