Daggerheart - After the Fall of Caelifyr - Session 1

No one knows why he did it. Perhaps it was because of the promise he made to the old King while the King lay dying. “Protect my son…”. Perhaps it was his love for the new boy-king, just 11 years old, and what would happen to the boy if he lost a civil war. Perhaps it was an act of desperation, what with the country he loved and swore to protect being torn apart by petty nobles in a brutal civil war. Or perhaps it was just hubris, that made the Archmage Varysynth Mallec, Defender of the Realm, cast his spell.

From his tower in the heart of the capital of Lysmar, Varysynth cast a spell so powerful even the Gods took notice. But something went horribly wrong.

In the wake of the shockwave that circled out from the tower the participants in the war began to change into creatures from the Circles Below. Their skin turned red, green, and blue. They grew horns and tails. But worse yet they began to feed on magic.

Any magic would do. At first they drained long treasured family heirlooms. Then more recently created less powerful items. After they drained all of the minor magic potions they turned on the casters of spells.

The survivors dubbed the victims of Varysyth’s spell, “The Lost.”
