TLDR:
This is not D&D; however if you only know 5e you'll be fine and I can explain the differences. I'll have pre-generated characters so all you need is yourself, a pencil and your D&D dice.
What is this?
This is the Cosmere RPG based on Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn novels. I'll go over some of the differences between D&D and Cosmere at 5pm as I expect most people will never have played nor have a copy of the RPG itself. I plan to run some 1 shots over the next few months to get some proficiency with the system myself. If you show up to multiple 1 shots you'll be able to use the same character.
Story:
Era 1 either during book 1 or prior to book 1. The lord ruler still rules.
You are all members of a Skaa thieving crew.
Can I bring my own character?
If you own the Mistborn RPG book and want to make your own character you are welcome to do so. Here are your character creation rules:
1. You cant use anything from the Stormlight campaign setting.
2. Make your character at level 2
3. No dice rolls (ie boxings). Instead take the average.
3. You have completed no goals (including talent based ones)
4. If you pick Kandra as your ancestry you must obey the rules of the First Contract (no killing humans)
5. If you pick mistborn/feruchemist be aware that I'm not a system expert (you are) and you need to understand what you're getting yourself into. They're a complicated class. Don't expect to slow down table play because you're not sure of what you can do.

DISCLAIMER (and spoiler)
The Mistborn novels are somewhat grimdark and so is the RPG. The novels explore some dark themes such as slavery and eugenics. If the concept of slavery is a trigger for you then this is not the game for you. Just to be clear: NO. You aren't a slaveowner. Slave owners are the bad guys. You're fighting against the system of oppression. Technically you are one of the slaves.
As a DM I have no interest in exploring the atrocities of slavery. Yes these things are happening. No I don't want to get into the details. Torture is an X card for me. Sexual Assault/Coercion is an X card for me. Let's try to keep things light even in a world of darkness.
