Hey Actors / Readers / and EVERYONE ELSE: What say we do a table read of Midsummer Night's Dream?? Who's in?
To just throw something out at ya'll as a possibility, are you busy the evening of Wednesday July 30 starting at 8:00 pm EST? (3 hour run time, all in with chit chat and review) Come join us. All levels welcome. The point is to have loads of fun while bringing this wonderful play to life.
My adaptation is (dare I say it?) more fun than Shakespeare's original. (YES, I said it!)
While keeping true to the beauty of his work, I've made changes that (1) make the play more understandable and enjoyable for modern audiences by cutting out things that made people laugh then but mean nothing now (for example, knowing or caring that a "cholier" is one who brings coal); (2) make better use of an acting ensemble, by evening out lines and cutting very small characters; and (3) ramp up the comedy, playing to today's masses (as he played to his).
Cast totals 20 roles -- many of which can be read by the same person. 12 male roles & 8 female -- but, hey, anyone can read anything, really. I'd like at least, say, 8 people minimum if we are to take on this exciting challenge. Got any friends interested in Shakespeare and fun?
I'll provide the script to each. No cost! No hidden fees, late charges, over-acting penalties, or hickory stick knuckle bashes. Each person to join in and help us bring this fantastic play to life is guaranteed a portion of the profits generated that night (uh... zero, you know!)
Go ahead and sign up. I'll send you the script, so you can see if you like it. If you don't, then don't send me a million dollars. (I mean, you still could, perhaps, but I'd be awfully confused at the cross messaging.) If you DO like it, then we'll see you on the evening of July 30!
