She is a mom, Java Champion, Docker Captain, and co-author of the O’Reilly title DevOps Tools for Java Developers. She is active in the developer community, has spoken at numerous software conferences around the world including Kubecon and DockerCon, and is part of the JCrete and JAlba UNconference teams.

Talk 2: Containerized Developer Environments with Ray Elenteny, Solutions Architect, SolTech

The onboarding process for developers can be time-consuming and frustrating, particularly when setting up workstations and tools. Organizations often rely on documentation and conversations with peers to help new developers navigate these challenges. Furthermore, switching teams or working on older versions of applications can also lead to conflicts and time-consuming workstation setups. Containerization provides an improved approach to developer onboarding by allowing for the creation of containerized development environments. This approach is more efficient and cost-effective than replicating environments through separate workstations or virtual machines. Additionally, with the use of Docker and Kubernetes, containerized development environments can be deployed on any contemporary infrastructure. The presentation will cover best practices for designing and implementing Docker images for development environments, along with working examples.

Speaker Bio:

Ray Elenteny is a Senior-level technologist with over twenty years of experience in a wide range of technologies. Skilled in solving business problems in a team environment with relevant technical solutions. Capable of developing and implementing strategies at all levels within an organization including customer-facing units, sales groups, technical personnel of all levels, and senior management.
