The Hack Day event - Saturday will take place at Catalyst IT from 9am to 9pm. At this time we have no drinks or lunch sponsorship so be prepared to pop out to one of the many local establishments for snacks/lunch and maybe even dinner.

Many thanks to Catalyst IT for providing a venue.

A pre-event is planned for Thursday 17th but will be dependent on numbers - at 6pm (same venue as the main event). By this time participants will need to have found a team and submitted their hacks. See the Discussion board for more information.

We are keen to host a Docker Global Hack Day #3 (http://blog.docker.com/2015/07/announcing-docker-global-hack-day-3/) local version. The plan at this time would be for teams to come together on the Thursday evening (Likely to be Catalyst IT at this time) where we will as a group watch the Docker videos. We will need to form 3/4 teams before then - we can do this via the forums on this site (although a Pre-Event is scheduled for the 9th to do this). On the Saturday it would be great to do a whole day hack from 9am-9pm. The cool swag for those taking part has arrived in NZ!

Details for the Pre-Event have been sent out to attendees and a discussion forum started. Please try to come to this event - take responsibility for finding a team of people to work with on this hackathon.

Take a look at the submitted hacks at the bottom of this page for ideas:

Rules from the Docker announcement page:

As a team of 1-3 hackers, you will hack on a project using Docker or its infrastructure plumbing (runC, Notary) as a central piece. You will have exactly from 4pm PDT on Wednesday, September 16th to 9am PDT on Monday, September 21st to complete this project. This window includes the time to create all materials needed for your submission.

Although it is not allowed to start your project before 4pm PDT on Wednesday, September 16th, we strongly encourage everyone to think about project ideas in advance. We will build a page with all the project ideas for everyone to see what ideas have already been submitted and help participants form teams.

Everyone will submit projects in one of three categories listed below:

  1. Docker Plugins
  2. Docker Plumbing – runC (https://github.com/opencontainers/runc), Notary (https://github.com/docker/notary), etc
  3. Docker Freestyle – must use features from Docker 1.7 and above.

So head to the Docker page for more details and lets see how many teams we can get in Auckland. I for one am on a month long Go (https://golang.org/) learning curve so I can join a team.

If you are keen to join a team join up for this meetup and we will contact you soon.
