Docker panel discussion at Gilt

Details

Join us for a unique panel discussion about Docker at Gilt’s office in NYC. We'll have the honor to host a panel of experts from Docker, Gilt and Spotify. This panel will be moderated by Jesse White (Docker NYC co-organizer). It will be a great opportunity to learn about Docker while meeting and networking with other people with similar interests.

All guests must provide their first and last names when they RSVP, so they can get past security. Security will be checking IDs at the door.

Schedule

6:30 to 7:00: Networking / food & drinks

7:00 to 8:30: Docker panel discussion

8:30 to 9:00: Networking / food & drinks

Speakers

James Turnbull will discuss how the Docker project has been evolving over the past few months and explain what’s new in the latest version. James will also reveal exclusive information about Docker, Inc services and roadmap.

Michael Bryzek will discuss how Gilt’s engineering team has been experimenting with Docker to improve continuous delivery of their micro-services architecture, which to date includes more than 300 micro-services. He’ll also highlight some of the benefits Docker offers to engineers, such as stability, repeatability, and the flexibility to create lightweight environments.

Jake Moshenko will detail how Quay.io uses Docker in their Docker image hosting platform, and how they then use that platform and some associated orchestration to bootstrap code pushes to the platform itself.

Jesse is the Lead DevOps Engineer at Thrillist and the awesome co-organizer of the Docker NYC user group. As a moderator of the panel, Jesse will be guiding the conversation towards various topic of interest and asking questions to the speakers.

About Docker

Docker is an open-source project to easily create lightweight, portable, self-sufficient containers from any application. The same container that a developer builds and tests on a laptop can run at scale, in production, on VMs, bare metal, OpenStack clusters, public clouds and more. About Quay.io

Quay.io was originally created out of necessesity to use Docker containers. We were using Docker containers to host and isolate server processes invoked on behalf of our users and often running their code. We started by building the Docker image dynamically whenever we spun up a new host node. The image was monolithic. It was too large, took too long to build, and was hard to manage conflicts. Determined to scratch our own itch, we built Quay.io, and officially launched it as an aside in our presentation to the Docker New York City Meetup (https://www.meetup.com/Docker-NewYorkCity/events/142142762/) on October 2nd, 2013.
