The Last Days of Socrates by Plato

"Consider just this, and give your minds to this alone: whether or not what I say is just"

Plato's description of Socrates' trial and execution (399 BC) represents a watershed point in classical literature and the history of Classical Athens. In these four dialogues, Plato emphasizes the Socratic concept of personal responsibility and depicts Socrates living and dying according to his philosophy. In Euthyphro, Socrates discusses virtue outside the courtroom; in Apology, he appears in court and refutes any accusations of impiety; in Crito, he declines a plea to be released from prison; and in Phaedo, Socrates calmly and deftly discusses eternity in the face of his imminent death.
