This month, we have Alex Thurow from Germany doing his well-travelled talk, Thoughts on (Modern?) Software Development.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

“If someone is taking a journey, he (or she) can tell a story. Therefore, I would take my staff and hat and would choose to travel.”
(Matthias Claudius, 1740-1815)

Inspired by this quote, this talk takes a practical look at what it really means to build a career in modern software development.

Originally created for students transitioning from education into the workforce, it explores the skills, mindset, and realities needed to not just survive but be productive in the software industry.

Much of this may sound familiar, but it’s worth revisiting with a fresh perspective.

Why does software development still feel so hard, even for experienced teams? Why do we, as an industry, keep struggling with the same problems?

This talk offers some answers and a few uncomfortable truths about why building software remains such a challenging, messy, and often unpredictable process.

Spoiler: The real difficulties are usually not where we think they are.

Agenda:

6:00pm - Welcome.
6:15pm - Alex Thurow's talk
7:15pm - Final words & Farewell
