π¦ Using collaborative EventStorming to gain domain understanding (hands-on) π§
Building the wrong thing is the biggest waste in software development. Domain Driven Design is all about gaining better understanding of the problems that we try to solve with software. DDD has a whole host of methods and techniques that help you understand the business domain and capture it in the code that you write. Many of the methods used revolve around collaborative modeling, bringing people with knowledge about the problems (domain experts) together with people that can solve those problems using technology (software engineers).
EventStorming is just one example of such a collaborative modeling technique. We like it because you don't need to be into software or process modeling to use it. It is very simple and therefore accessible for many different types of participants. EventStorming facilitates discussion, decision-making and a common understanding of the context of the digital product or service at hand. The model that you create with EventStorming can be used to discover boundaries and divide responsibilities, highlight pain points or opportunities and even serve as starting point for your implementation or UX design.
