Details

I am delighted to announce that our next meetup will be hosted by Altitude Angel on Wednesday, 24th April.

Agenda –

6:15 pm - refreshments, networking and introduction
6:50 pm - Lightning talk from Callum Linington 'Beyond ASP.NET Controllers'
7:00 pm- Chris Bimson, An introduction to Specflow (cucumber for .NET)
8:00pm- Eduard Tomas, Building a containerised application in .Net Core and AKS
9:00pm - close and networking

Talk 1# Callum Linington (Chief Evangelist from Slate Apps, Reading) will be talking on 'Beyond ASP.NET Controllers'.

Overview: A look at an alternative to Api Controllers. MediatR is a .Net Library used for creating BDD services. When you create ASP.NET services you'll most likely plug MediatR into controllers. I will talk about why I don't do that and what I did instead!

Talk 2# Chris Bimson (Principle Software Consultant from Codurance)
"Specflow: What is it and should I be using it?"

Overview: An introduction to Specflow (cucumber for .NET) including a demonstration of it’s basic features and workflow, issues to consider when using Specflow to drive testing in a real application and advice for teams considering adopting Specflow.

Talk 3 # Eduard Tomas (MVP and Principle Tech Lead from Plain Concepts in Barcelona, Spain)

Building a containerized application in .Net Core and AKS by Eduard
Tomàs.

Overview: In this talk we will see how we can containerize a netcore application and deploy to a Azure Kubernetes Services. We will learn the basics of Kubernetes and AKS: its application model, how we can deploy our application and how we can manage it. Plain Docker knowledge is not required, although recommended. Anyway, in the talk we will review the basic docker concepts needed."

In the talk I'll describe briefly the basic of how Kubernetes works and how we can manage it, and we will deploy a 4 services application (all of them written in .Netcore) to Kubernetes. After we will scale up/down the application and see how we can monitor it.
