The .Net Thames Valley meetup is back with a bang for the first face 2 face of 2023 and it is set to be one of our best ones yet! The legendary Jon Skeet, A Staff Developer Platform Engineer at Google will be giving an insightful talk on ‘How Jon thinks when he is coding.’ This Insight is going to be invaluable and certainly not to be missed. Joining Jon is Paul Bevis the CTO at FSP talking on ‘Sustainable Demand Shaping’.

The meetup is on Wednesday, June 14th Now Building, Here & Now, Thames Valley Park, Reading, Berkshire, England, RG6 1WG - plenty of parking - park outside the Now building. Public transport info is listed down below.

Weather permitting we will be lucky enough to have this fantastic meetup in FSP’s Outdoor Cinema! Plan B will be to have the meetup inside the fantastic facilities at FSP.

We have the capacity for 60 people so please make sure your RSVP is correct the week before, to allow anyone on the waitlist to attend.

If you can aim to get there for 6 pm there will be drinks (beers and soft drinks) as well as a spread of pizza/snacks to keep you going for the evening. The talks will begin at 7 pm.

With a little bit of luck, we might be in for some good weather around this time of year. (Not going to hold our breath) but if the sun is out, we will be lucky enough to have this meet-up in the sunshine at FSP’s fantastic outdoor cinema facility. The sun is setting... a drink and pizza in hand... Paul Bevis and Jon Skeet sharing insight that will impact your coding skills forever... An evening that is truly not to be missed.

The talks:
Paul Bevis "Sustainable Demand Shaping"
Jon Skeet "How Jon thinks when he's coding"

The Speakers:
Jon Skeet is a Staff Developer Platform Engineer at Google, working on Google Cloud Platform client libraries for .NET, based in the London office. (That's the theory, anyway. Most of the time he works from his shed instead.) He's best known for contributions to Stack Overflow as well as his book, C# in Depth. Additionally, he is the primary maintainer of the Noda Time date/time library for .NET.

We also have the brilliant Paul Bevis who is the CTO at FSP Speaking on ‘Sustainable Demand Shaping’. FSP is at the forefront of digital transformation and cybersecurity excellence. He has a deep technical background honed through a passion for software development, problem-solving, and new technology. He started out as a Senior Solutions architect back in 2011. Taking on multiple roles over the years he has been a core pillar in the success of FSP.

How to get there:

The wonderful team at FSP has kindly informed us that there is plenty of parking available, and completely free of charge for all visitors to the FSP office. If you are traveling by car, follow the directions below: (or use Google/Apple Maps)

  1. Leave the M4 motorway at Junction 10.
  2. Follow the signs to Reading A329(M).
  3. Stay on the A329(M) until the roundabout at the end - turn right into Thames Valley Park.
  4. Follow this road along, crossing the roundabouts until you see the Microsoft signs on the Microsoft Campus.
  5. Take the second exit on this roundabout and follow the buildings until you see the fourth one - marked NOW.
  6. Turn right between the totem sign and the bus stop - into the NOW car park.
  7. Park in front of the building. FSP is the office on the ground floor - at the back right - you'll see the FSP logo l through the glass!

If you are traveling by Train or Bus:

  1. Reading Station is a mainline train station and is easily accessible from most other places around the UK.
  2. Trains from Paddington to Reading run approximately every 15-20 minutes throughout the day and the average journey time is around 30 minutes.
  3. Once you arrive at the train station, the bus stops and taxi rank can be found outside the station. A taxi will cost you approximately £8.
  4. Alternatively, there is a free shuttle bus that runs between Thames Valley Park and the station.

Please bear in mind that the last bus from Reading to Thames Valley Park is currently 18:15 pm on the schedule and there are no returns in the evening, so you'd need to make your own way back (we're happy to do a shout-at the event to help people connect for taxi's, etc).
