How we stopped worrying and let our project managers deploy code to production.

Deploying an application to production: at its best it demands your attention, at its worst, a nail-biting roller coaster ride until the last moment.

At Dotdash we spent many years trying to improve our confidence in our applications and with our migration to the cloud we've extended those efforts into making deployments painless and infrastructure easy to orchestrate, with requiring intimate knowledge of our deployment systems or even having access to the cloud tooling.

Not finding a satisfactory solution to our CI/CD needs on the market, chose the daunting path to build something that was tailored to our needs. Today we use Squadron: a solution that commodifies and abstracts infrastructure so that developers can build an application without needing any access to cloud infrastructure tooling. Squadron allows product owners to create their own test sandboxes and even deploy new releases to production, all on their own, safely and efficiently, often without any support from the developers or Ops.

Leon has been with the company for 14 years, working across a multitude of languages and problem domains over his tenure at various levels. His interests & focus are around orchestration automation, reactive infrastructure & cost engineering.
