What we're about

.NET South East is a new .NET / C# user group looking to build a vibrant .NET community in the south east of the UK. We would love to invite developers from the area to join us in learning about .NET and related technologies from expert speakers and enthusiasts.

It's an exciting time to be a .NET developer with the continual development of .NET Core. Welcome to the #dotnetrenaissance

If you're a developer in Brighton or the South East and would be interested in attending / speaking this event, please join up to be notified and help us to gauge the interest for this group.

Functional Programming in C# with Dave Mateer C# has gained many more functional features over the last decade. This introductory talk is about the often mind-bending journey of exploring how C# can do doing things more functionally. We will explore what FP is and conclude that everyone has their own definition. We will define what the different paradigms of programming have come to mean We will quickly get into code comparing styles and using the built-in FP parts of C# including: - LINQ - Lambda expressions - Extension methods I'll be using some newer C# features throughout such as Expression bodied syntax, Named Tuples, Importing static members and show how Resharper can help to explore these constructs. We will build up an example of a broken link checker web spider using - Expression-Oriented Programming - Immutable Types - Pure Methods - Option Type - Either Type - Binding - Composability - Func and Action All source code will be available. I'll give a list of recommended books (including the best C# book I've ever read), videos, C# library extensions and example functional projects using C#

.NET South East - April 2019 - Luce Carter

Madgex Ltd

Please arrive between 6:00pm and 6:25pm. Talks will start at 6:30pm. Once the talks are underway we may not be able to guarantee access. Talk: Zero to Mobile Hero - Intro to Xamarin, Cognitive Services and Azure DevOps You can be faced with a nightmare of Xcode, Android Studio, Objective C, Swift and other options. This means not only learning multiple languages and frameworks but also having to support two different codebases for the same application. But Xamarin Native and Xamarin.Forms offer a powerful, cross-platform development solution for .NET developers looking to target smartphones, tablets, TV’s, computers and IoT devices. In this talk, Luce shares what Xamarin is including Native and Xamarin.Forms for both C# and F#, how to get started creating a simple HelloWorld app from scratch and a more complex example (will involve at least one Azure service including Cognitive Services for facial recognition). Also how to use AzureDevOps for Continuous Integration and some awesome examples of apps written using Xamarin including ones used to save lives! Luce will take examples from http://xamarin.com/customers as well as show this demo about how Xamarin was used alongside other technologies to aid with Skin Cancer prediction. This talk will include slides, demos, code samples, live coding and the audience will walk away feeling like they too can create a mobile app in just a few minutes and carry their work around with them in their pocket or backpack! About Luce: Luce is a proudly neurodiverse Microsoft MVP and software developer based in Manchester, England. When not writing mobile apps for fun in her spare time, she runs the Manchester Xamarin User Group, mentors for Code First Girls, writes for the Xamarin Weekly newsletter, edits Montemagno.com and speaks at local user groups. Follow Luce on Twitter @LuceCarter1 and also her Blog.
