Spring ceremony:
8:30-9:45am 108 Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) - all levels welcome with variations & modifications
A true moving meditation, one breath, one count, collective energy.
Childpose or seated visualization can be practiced at anytime
10:00-10:15am Chanting - 108 times Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu
In Vedic/yogic systems 1 (unity) + 0 (wholeness) + 8 (infinity/karma); 108 is tied to astronomical/astrological measures, the number of energy lines (nadis) meeting at the heart. Chanting a mantra or sloka 108 times allows a meditative length that helps settle the mind and deepen intention.
- Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu
- Transliteration/pronunciation: lo-kah sa-ma-stah su-khi-no bha-van-tu
- Translation: “May all beings everywhere be happy and free.”
- This chant intention is of renewal, balance, and goodwill — themes of equinox when day/night balance and new growth begin.
10:15-11:00am Chakra & Metta (Loving-Kindness) Meditations
Chakra meditation
- Focused meditation on the seven main energy centers (chakras) along the spine — Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, Crown.
- Clear, balance, and energize physical, emotional, and subtle-body states linked to each chakra.
- Sit or lie down comfortably. Bring awareness to each chakra in order (root → crown). Visualize the location, color, or a short affirmation
Metta (loving-kindness) meditation
- A practice cultivating unconditional goodwill toward self and others
- Increase compassion, reduce reactivity, foster emotional resilience and connection.
- Sit quietly, breathe, and silently repeat short phrases directed first to yourself, then progressively to loved ones, neutral people, difficult people, and all beings.
11:00-11:30am Chai, Samosas & Community
As many of you know, the Spring Equinox marks the moment when day and night are equal - a powerful symbol of balance in both nature and within ourselves. Astrologically, it is the beginning of a new cycle of the zodiac as the Sun enters Aries, bringing a surge of vitality, courage, and forward movement. It is a natural energetic reset - a time to release what belongs to the past season and step into fresh intention.
In Ayurveda (the sister science of yoga), this transition from winter into spring is especially significant. The heavier, slower energy accumulated during the colder months begins to melt and move. This ceremony is perfect for the cleansing, awakening, and rekindling of our inner fire (agni) to better digest both our food and experiences into life-giving vitality.
Movement, breath, chanting, and meditation help clear stagnation and align us with the renewed rhythm of the earth and our aligned path forward.
Please bring:
A yoga mat
Water
An open heart
Let's move, breathe, chant, and celebrate the turning of the season together.
With warmth and light
