Amazon sometimes employs a marketing and business tactic known as "pre-emptive product announcements" or "future press releases” a strategy popularized internally as part of the Working Backwards product development process.

Before building a new product, service, or feature, Amazon teams write a mock press release as if the product has already launched and is successful. This isn't meant for public release, it's an internal tool to define:

  • Who the customer is
  • What problem is being solved
  • Why this product is different or better
  • How it will benefit customers

Join us for this month’s DOUX Meet Up to learn from Jake Parks, Director of Roadside Assistance Programs and Digital Technologies at AAA (American Automobile Association), about Amazon’s product design process, and how you too can employ this strategy at your organization!
