Still-Life Drawing for Middle School

Build a strong artistic foundation in this 3-session Still Life for Middle School course. Designed for artists ages 11–14, the class focuses on essential drawing techniques including mark-making and drawing from observation, guiding students toward thoughtfully composed still life drawings.

Class 1: Exploring Our Tools - Our first session will focus on exploring the full potential of our tools; from pencils and drawing materials to the most important tools of all: our eyes and hands.

Class 2: Building up the Form - In the second session, we will study light and value, and learn how careful observation and rendering of values helps make objects appear three-dimensional.

Class 3: Balanced Compositions - For our third session we will consider the principle of design, Balance. Students will be guided in creating their own Still-Life setup to draw from observation, with feedback from the teaching artist.
