What You'll Learn
Session 1: Still Life Fundamentals Master negative and positive space composition while learning watercolor basics, materials, and value relationships through carefully arranged still life subjects.
Session 2: New York in Monochrome Transition to urban subjects using monochromatic techniques. Focus on building form from light to dark while capturing NYC's architectural character.
Session 3: New York in Full Color Complete your journey with full-color NYC street scenes. Learn color mixing, temperature control, and confident brushwork for dynamic urban landscapes.

Required Materials
Brushes & Tools:

  • Size 10-12 round watercolor brush
  • Size 3-6 round watercolor brush
  • 2 water cups

Paper & Support:

  • Arches 140lb Cold Press block
  • 12x16 recommended size
  • Minimum 10x14 acceptable

Professional Paints:

  • Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre
  • Moonglow, Indigo, Prussian Blue
  • Green Gold, Winsor Green
  • Spectrum Red, Permanent Yellow

About Gavin Snider, Brooklyn-Based Professional Artist
Gavin is an artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, painting to slow down the world and learn about the places and people around him. With a background in architecture, much of his work focuses on buildings and cityscapes. He has created artwork for Saturday Night Live, the New York Knicks, Grand Central Terminal, the MTA, and the NYC DOT. Gavin leads painting workshops throughout the city with organizations like the Guggenheim and Drawing America.
