Sketching in St Andrew’s churchyard
Details
We’ll meet at the door to St Andrew’s Church in Chesterton at 11am, and reconvene there at 1pm to share what we have done. We can go to a pub or café afterwards. The plan is to draw or paint in the churchyard, but we have permission to sketch inside the church if the weather is poor.
St Andrew’s churchyard dates from the 12th century and is a designated City Wildlife site. The church is famous for its links to Olaudah Equiano (also known as Gustavus Vassa), who was sold into slavery and later wrote a book about his life. His daughter is buried in the churchyard. The church also has an unusually well preserved medieval wall painting of the Last Judgement, known as the Doom Painting: https://standrews-chesterton.org/church-history/the-doom-painting/
Please bring your own art materials, as usual. A sketching stool will be useful if you have one.
