Durham Plein Air at West Point on the Eno

Grab your travel-friendly painting supplies and/or sketchbook and join us for some art outdoors. This is our first event and all levels welcome!

We will meet in front of the old mill (pictured) which is at the north end of the park - turn right as you enter the park. Some parking is available nearby. Here's a more detailed map of where to meet and park. And you can find more info about the facility here.

I'll wait until 9:05am, then we will begin exploring spots to paint in and around the mill and river. If you're late, just ramble around to look for us. People will probably be spread out based on which views they want to paint or sketch.

At 11:15, meet back in front of the old mill for an optional "throw down" where we can admire each other's work.

Event will be canceled in case of poor weather. I will send an email update from Meetup if this happens, so RSVP here to get the updates (will only send to people who replied yes).

Tips

• Wear comfortable clothing for the weather and supportive shoes for walking on uneven terrain.
• Bring a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray.
• Bring water and any other beverages or snacks you may want.
• If you don't have an easel or don't prefer standing, bring a folding chair/stool or picnic blanket.
• Make sure you're able to carry your supplies for short to medium distances, depending on your preferred painting location.
• Be aware of your surroundings and the weather. Watch out for uneven terrain and signs of heat exhaustion. Hike at your own risk. Stay hydrated.
• Leave the area as you found it or better. Bring any trash out with you.

I plan to host these once per month when the weather is not too extreme. I'd love suggestions for locations, especially in Durham and Orange Counties!
