Richard Attenborough plays John Christie, the mild mannered serial killer. I couldn't easily see him in this role, but he is said to use quite a chilling whisper throughout, so now I can.
This is described as a dark film. Christie killed many women and used one of the tenants (played by a very young John Hurt) as scapegoat for the murder of his wife (Judy Geeson). This case of an innocent man being executed is said to have contributed to the abolition of the death penalty in the UK. Chillingly, Attenborough did film a scene inside 10 Rillington Place, which was demolished shortly after the film was completed. A BBC review: "...arguably still the most accomplished British true-crime film ever made."
I want to see it because the period touches are well observed. It is bound to be an interesting film, and we'll make sure we get to have a chat after the film to recover from it. There's a pub close by that we can aim for.
>>Please book your own ticket and please note the attendance fee of £2 so I can keep running this group. Thanks!
