DWS: Recipe for FUN -> Cheap Booze?

Dear Strangers,

Work Hard, Play Hard takes a new meaning this year to me. I vowed that I would work almost everyday of the year, if not at the hospital, then as a clinical educator, or studying and passing my CCRN. Now with the relief effort in Haiti, I am thinking about possibly running down there sometime soon to do a couple of weeks of volunteer work with the critical trauma patients. With all that said, my play time is super limited so when I do take that time to drink and socialize, its going to be well thought out; no vacations for 2010, but definitely I want to squeeze in a DWS party at the least once-a-month. My criteria for these parties, aside from the biggies (Anniversary Party 2/21, July 4th in MDR, a couple of double decker events, our yearly cruise (maybe), Halloween in Hollywood Hills and NYE) is to ensure great prices for all, and to have a lot of fun, and if possible sponsor a charity or two as we are going along. I know everyone is still hurting from the poor economy, so want to make the events as cheap and I can and super simple for myself to organize for many people to enjoy, mix and make new friends.

So for the first party of the year, I chose a place that makes it really simple for me to organize South. This bar is one of my favorite in Santa Monica, it reminds me of a bar/club I used to frequent in Stamford, Connecticut in my 20's called The Art Bar.

Like the Art Bar, South has an awesome crowd, even non-DWSers are friendly enough to go up and say 'Hi' to without getting a weird look. The dudes that own it are so cool, they have great mixer games throughout the week (especially trivia night on Wednesdays where it is standing room only), the food is excellent, parking is easy, and besides it being walking distance from my home, this place has some excellent drinks and music to go along with it. Did I also mention the mad friendly, fast and good-looking staff? Well, there you go :-) Adam and his staff make it really easy for me to structure a great party here.

I hosted a party here last spring, 380 DWSers signed up, and we all had a great time. For the 5 hours I hung out, I remember sipping on my pitcher of Sangria then later my pitcher of Margarita, chilling with old friends and meeting some new ones, laughing and leaving in some good spirits.

Last year Randy and I enjoying our drinks early in the evening:

So, in desperation to have yet another fun, easy, and chill night out I met up with Adam (one of the four cool owners of South) a couple of days ago, and he told me he was so pleased with our group last year he wanted to give us a great deal to come back and party with him again!

Katie, Hiroshi and Quinton hanging in South:

With our DWS wristbands we get some awesome specials next week and it also gives you free reign to talk to anyone else with a DWS band on!

Christine and I are Ready t start drinking our pitchers of Margarita's:

Again, the newbie?s will be marked with the green/yellow glow-bands and the rest of you regulars get stuck with the cool darker color glow-twisties.

Marja and Chris K (Blinky) join Randy on the outside deck:

Yea, this had something to do with the mixer I did last year for this party. We haven't yet decided what and if we are going to do that again, but either way, it'll be fun :-)
