Lone Pine to Bishop via back roads, Silver Canyon to Ancient Bristlecones & more
Details
This is a 4x4 Vehicle Off-Road Adventure. Having a high clearance 4x4 vehicle and camping equipment is a requirement to attend.
***UPDATE: May 16 to 18 confirmed. Friday to Sunday 2 nights.
***Note: We will be camping at the Volcanic Tablelands in Bishop. This is BLM land and there are no facilities such as running water or toilets at the camp site. You will be responsible for your own food, water, camping equipment, and restroom solutions. Campsites on BLM land are first come first serve so there is no guarantee where we will be camping. We will need to be flexible and open to changes as needed. We will all need to bring our own firewood.
***Note: We will all need to be responsible for our own food and drinks for the duration of the trip. However, being that we will be close to town the opportunities to eat at local Bishop restaurants will be possible.
Brief Summary:
This will be a Friday through Sunday Trip. Small group. 4x4 high clearance required.
Day 1:
Start at Alabama Hills and take the back roads up to Bishop. Mañana site will be a stop. Reward Mine has some large rocks towards the end of the trail so we might bypass this one after all. Fish Springs Petroglyph site will also be a stop.
Once we reach Bishop we will find a camp site in the Volcanic Tablelands and set up. We will find time along the way for lunch and plan on preparing dinner at the campsite, although visiting the town for dinner is a possibility as we will be fairly close. We will hopefully have time to do some obligatory petroglyph hunting and exploring in the Tablelands during the first day as well.
Day 2:
We will trek up Silver Canyon to visit the amazing Ancient Birstlecone forest. Both Shulman Grove and the Patriarch Grove. We will make time to stop for lunch along the way. Both Shulman Grove and Patriarch groves have hiking trails where we can spend time visiting the ancient bristlecones. Shulman Grove has a visitor center as well. Dinner could be made at camp or in town.
Ideally, we will make time for a Buttermilk Trail run at some point in the weekend!! This is a super fun and scenic trail just outside of Bishop!
Day 3 will be a leisurely trip down 395 back home.
More detailed plans will come. Just wanted to get it out there.
