Where people of all ages, backgrounds, skills, and abilities come together to celebrate community drumming, music, dance, and expression and support each other in various ways!
Who We Are
The Portland Saturday Market Drum Circle Community is a diverse set of individuals sharing rhythm, music, movement, and artistic expression.
Since the circle is for everyone, each circle is unique and could include drummers, musicians, artists, dancers, picnickers, movement/flow artists, youth, seniors, families, tourists, & more!

Location
We generally meet in the grassy area just south of the Portland Saturday Market & Bill Naito Legacy Fountain on the beautiful downtown Portland Oregon Waterfront. Listen for drums!
What is a Community Circle?
Community circles are free community gatherings where opportunities for civic engagement, artistic expression, social interaction, music education, and cultural enrichment are created.
Common Questions:
- What should I bring? Please bring items for your comfort and/or to share. Common items brought to the circle:
- Drums
- Chair
- Water
- Snacks
- Friends
- Positive Energy
- Tie-dye shirts/coats/pants and silly hats - Are there extra drums or other items to share? Some people bring instruments, snacks, blankets, art supplies, toys, dance props, stickers, and other items to share with the community. A communal blanket is usually available with instruments and other goodies for everyone to share and enjoy.
- Who leads the circle? The circle is led by the community itself. Many people volunteer their time and help to create a safe and welcoming space.
- Can I bring my family? Sure! This location is particularly safe and accessible, which is why the community gathers here and is often frequented by kids and families.
- Is this circle affiliated with the Portland Saturday Market? No, the community circle gathers independently and informally outside the Portland Saturday Market.
- What about smoking and drugs? The community encourages those who partake to move away from the circle for the comfort and safety of others.

More Information
Participants often wear tie-dye or festive attire to create a colorful atmosphere. Parking is available at Smart Park for $5/day at Naito and Davis Street. There are plenty of food options at the Saturday Market if you get hungry!

Warm Welcome: Treat others as you'd like to be treated.
Respect: Show courtesy to fellow participants and their instruments.
Harmonize: Listen to others, be mindful of volume, and harmonize with their rhythms.
Share: Bring something to contribute like instruments, chairs, dance ribbons, etc.
Consideration: Be mindful of the community. Please smoke away from the circle.
